This chainmail skirt is constructed from wedge-riveted flat rings which alternate with solid flat rings. These mild steel rings measure 9 mm in diameter and are 17 gauge in thickness. This mail skirt is meant to be worn with plate armor to provide additional protection in areas not well-covered by plate armor – but it can also be used as a shortcut toward adding an extension to a mail haubergeon or hauberk.The skirt is tapered at the waist so you would have to add or subtract links to get it symmetrical if you wish to use it as an extension.
